The Culture Health Index

The Culture Health Index

The Culture Health Index (CHI) gives organisations a clear, actionable picture of where their culture thrives, and where it needs attention.

What CHI measures

Eight dimensions of culture. One clear picture.

Culture is multidimensional. CHI gives you a score for each dimension individually, an overall index score, and a score per question, so you always know exactly where to focus.

Overall CHI score: This single index provides leadership with an instant read on cultural health, which is trackable over time to show progress.

Overall CHI score

Dimension & question scores: The index can be opened up to see exactly which of the eight dimensions is driving results, and which individual questions flag concern. Understand where you're at with: Values Alignment, Leadership & Trust, Collaboration & Teamwork, Psychological Safety & Inclusion, Recognition & Feedback, Manager Effectiveness, Change & Innovation and Workload and Wellbeing.

CHI eight dimensions

eNPS + bespoke questions: The Employee Net Promoter Score is built in. You can add your own questions to capture context that's unique to your organisation.

Tracking over time

Culture isn't a snapshot. CHI isn't either.

Results carry forward across every survey, so leadership teams always know whether things are improving or need attention.

Trend visibility across surveys: See whether your CHI score is rising, stable, or declining… and in which dimensions.

Organisation and team-level data: Understand culture holistically, or zoom into specific teams for targeted action.

Confidentiality built in: Team-level data is only surfaced where there are more than five respondents, so employees feel safe to be honest.

Flexible cadence: Run CHI as often as makes sense for your organisation or at key moments of change. You have complete control.

FAQs

How often should my organisation take CHI?

We recommend every quarter. Regular measurement is what allows you to track trends and see whether interventions are working. As it only takes around five minutes to complete, it’s not a big ask for employees each time.

Do I have to ask every question every time?

We recommend that you do but it's up to you. You have flexibility to include the full CHI question set or a subset depending on your focus areas. You can also add bespoke questions tailored to your organisation's current context.

Can questions be asked to specific teams only?

Yes. CHI supports targeted deployment, so you can send specific questions to specific teams. This is particularly useful when exploring a challenge in one part of the business without surveying the whole organisation.

Why have a CHI score and an eNPS score?

They measure different things. The CHI score tells you the state of your culture across eight dimensions. eNPS — the Employee Net Promoter Score — tells you whether your people would recommend your organisation as a place to work. Together, they give you both a diagnostic picture and a sentiment signal.

Is the data secure?

Yes. Data security and respondent confidentiality are built into CHI's foundations. Individual responses are never surfaced; only aggregated scores are shared, and team-level data requires a minimum of five respondents before it's made available.

What about privacy?

We take privacy seriously and will only use personal information to administer a CHI account. Full information can be found here.

Do I need CHI and mojo?

CHI and mojo are complementary but independent tools. Mojo builds high-performance culture through meaningful manager-employee conversations and the action plans that follow. CHI tracks and benchmarks how far you've come.

How was CHI created?

CHI was developed by the mojo team drawing on organisational psychology research, culture frameworks, and practical experience working with organisations across multiple sectors. The eight dimensions were validated through stakeholder views and perspectives and refined through real-world testing.

Will CHI be free forever?

Yes. We launched CHI as a free tool and we plan to keep it that way.

Can I access industry or market benchmarking data?

This will be available in 2027.
